2020 Kia Sorento vs 2020 Chevrolet Traverse near Novi MI
The spirit of the road awaits you on the new 2020 Kia Sorento, but is it spirited enough to tackle the sharp good looks of the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse? Well, when you consider that the Sorento offers both sharp good looks and a versatile interior/exterior, you’ve got a winning recipe here, but we’ll see how it all plays out in our 2020 Kia Sorento vs 2020 Chevrolet Traverse competition. Which one of these is going to be serving Novi Detroit Southfield Troy Michigan customers with more value? That’s what Glassman Kia strives to find out here in our brief review.
Fuel Economy – 2020 Kia Sorento
We want to begin by emphasizing the excellent fuel economy of the Sorento compared to the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse. The Traverse only gets 17-18 MPG in city driving and 25-27 MPG in highway driving. By comparison, the Sorento gets up to 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on those long stretches of highway. Both are equipped with a V6 engine, but the Sorento also serves up an inline-4 engine option that the Traverse leaves out. Which engine you choose is going to make a big difference in fuel economy, so if you’re concerned mostly about fuel economy, you can ask Glassman Kia to help you test drive the most efficient Sorento. While no SUV is going to be bought solely for fuel economy – they’re not designed to be ultra fuel efficient – it doesn’t hurt that the much less expensive Sorento also saves you money at the gas pump.
Towing Capacity – 2020 Kia Sorento near Novi MI
The Sorento gets the same maximum towing capacity as the Traverse: 5,000 pounds. However, both base models are equipped differently so that the Sorento actually wins out on base model towing capacity: 2,000 pounds for the Sorento and only 1,500 pounds for the Traverse. The Traverse is far too large and muscular to only post 1,500 pound towing capacity, even on a base model or weaker engine. There’s no way that any vehicle of this size, taking up this much of the road, should only be able to tow 1,500 pounds no matter how it’s equipped. Many sedans can tow more than that! So we’re very disillusioned about the towing specs of the Traverse unless it’s a much higher priced trim. It’s priced far too high even at the low end to justify that kind of low towing capacity, especially for families who have big hauls like boats or 5th wheels. The base model Sorento will easily get you 2,000 pounds of towing capacity, and that’s about the minimum you’ll need to be confident about large hauls.
Safety – Sorento near Novi
Let’s get this out of the way: The Sorento and Traverse are both very safe vehicles. They serve up today’s most advanced driver-assist features and are built solidly to withstand the rigors of the road. The safety features of the Sorento come out just a bit ahead, though. Even the base model gets a wonderful traction control system and Hill-Start Assist Control so that you never lose your way on hills. Higher level trims will get Blind Sport Collision Avoidance, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance, and Automatic Emergency Braking. Will the Traverse have most of these features, too? Sure. However, Chevrolet is notorious for over-pricing their safety features (and their SUVs in general). They’re just not nice enough to warrant the prices that Chevy throws out, and the way that they did their safety platform this year leaves much to be desired.
Winner – Kia Sorento near Novi MI
Thanks for letting Glassman keep serving Novi Detroit Southfield Troy Michigan with award winning service and legions of terrific deals on great mid-size models like the Kia Sorento. It’s our big winner here today against the relatively over-priced Traverse. Many people have had gripes about the Traverse over the years, but this year’s model may be the most disappointing yet. On the Sorento’s side, though, things are coming up roses. Your top of the line SX model grabs leather seating, a panoramic sunroof, Harmon Kardon premium audio system, and 19-inch sport alloy wheels for a sporty look and feel. It’s light to drive but heavy and in control on the road, with rigid control even in the tightest of driving situations. Throw in the excellent safety features, and the 2020 Sorento is your big winner here today.
Test Drive Today – 2020 Kia Sorento dealer
The 2020 Sorento is far better than the Traverse on gas mileage and comes with a much lower price tag despite having similar features in most respects. Because of this, we recommend the Sorento much more than we do the Traverse, despite admitting that both are great SUVs.
